Early Morning Radio with the Windy City Rollers

Media, News » March 25th, 2015

During the wee hours of Sunday morning, three dedicated skaters joined WGN Radio's Jen Bosworth to talk all things derby. Kitty Mittons, Christian Mangle and Casey YaLater talked about how they got involved in roller derby, chatted about the tremendous camaraderie that goes hand in hand with strapping on a pair of skates and revealed all the work that goes into being a member of the Windy City Rollers.
But they also previewed the upcoming Ivy King Championship bout (this Saturday!) between the Hell's Belles and The Fury. Check out the interview here and ...

Under the Helmet: Interview with Flo Rider

Interviews, Skaters » March 19th, 2015

Flo Rider was just a rookie when she won her first Ivy King Cup.
It was early June of 2013 and The Fury capped off an undefeated season by beating the Manic Attackers 211-186. Just under two years later, Flo Rider is now one of the captains of The Fury as the ladies in orange get set to take on the Hell's Belles for the home season championship March 28.
"It's such an amazing team," Flo said. "We really pride ourselves on being a unit."
Even before she knew anything about roller derby, ...

The Manic Attackers handed last year's Ivy King Cup champion Double Crossers their third loss of the season Saturday. The ladies in blue got their first win of 2015, beating last year's champs 326-121. The win solidified the Manics' spot at 3rd place in the standings with a record of 1-2. The Double Crossers, with a record of 0-3, are now in 4th.

The first jam of the night featured Jan Trainor on the line for the Manic Attackers squaring up against Ms. Dr. Joseph L. Simonis for the Double Crossers. Simonis ...

Belles improve to 3-0 with win over The Fury

Bouts, Events, Featured » February 12th, 2015

The Hell's Belles may have beaten The Fury by 125 points Saturday, but the bout was a lot closer than the final score would indicate. With the 235-110 victory, the Belles move to 3-0 on the season and take sole possession of first place. The Fury moves to 2-1 and takes over the second spot.
Both teams came out of the gate swinging. In the first jam, Hat Trixxxie, jamming for The Fury, went to the box for a track cut. Almost immediately, Killjoy, jamming for the Hell's Belles, went to the ...

Bout recap: The Fury dominated the Double Crossers to take first place

Bouts, Events, Featured » January 23rd, 2015

The second bout of the night featured the Double Crossers vs. The Fury, and Team Fury showed they meant business right away. Ska Face and Hat Trixxxie took consecutive leads, and despite SpartaKris being the lone blocker on the track at one point, Fury put 17 points on the board going into Jam 4, while the Double Crossers stayed at 0. Jam 5 found XX jammer Lucy Wreckardo and Fury jammer Mah-Ko both taking turns in the penalty box, resulting in Mah-Ko passing the star to Ska, ...

Bout Recap: Hell's Belles take a 1 point victory over the Manic Attackers

Bouts, Events, Featured » January 23rd, 2015

Written by: T. Wrecks
In the closest bout we’ve seen yet this season, both the Hell’s Belles and the Manic Attackers brought their A-game. By Jam 7, the score remained close, with the Belles in the lead, 28 to 13. With Zombea Arthur, KillJoy, and Pish Posh (with a nice assist from Legal Tenderizer) taking the lead in the next few jams, the Belles upped their lead point by point, heading into Jam 12 with a solid point differential and a dangerous power jam for KillJoy. After a little trouble from ...
