The featured charity for our bout this weekend has been beautifying Chicago for over twenty years.

Partial proceeds from our bout this Saturday will benefit Chicago Gateway Green.

Chicago Gateway Green is a not for profit organization dedicated to greening and beautifying Chicago’s expressways, gateways, and neighborhoods since 1986. The organization has three key programs: the Expressway Partnership Program that maintains more than 100 expressway gardens along the Eisenhower, Kennedy and Stevenson; the International Sculpture Exchange Program that enhances expressway landscapes through placement of permanent, large-scale public art from 25 global sister cities; and the Tree Partnership Program that transforms vacant land in Chicago’s neighborhoods into tree-filled green-spaces through large-scale volunteer tree plantings.

WCR's donation will be enough for the Tree Partnership Program to plant 5 small trees!

Chicago Gateway Green is also well-known for its premier annual fundraising event, the Green Tie Ball, which has long been a fixture on the Chicago social calendar. As a lead-up to the event, which will be later this fall, they're hosting their annual Gaming for Green Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament on Thursday, August 5th.

Stay tuned for more details on the poker tourney (yes, players from WCR will be entering!), and in the meantime learn more about Chicago Gateway Green here: http://www.gatewaygreen.org/

WCR and Sound Bar are teaming up this Saturday, July 24th for a Charity Car Wash from 2-6pm in the Millennium parking lot at the corner of Franklin and Ohio streets in Chicago. All proceeds benefit the Leukemia Research Foundation.

A $10 cash donation ensures a sudsy exterior hand wash, wet rinse, and towel-dry along with complimentary admission passes, gift certificates and Sound Bar branded merchandise (t-shirts, tank tops, beach towels, hats, etc). No car is too dirty or too big; as long as there are enough suds, sponges and supporters, each car will leave the lot spotless.

In addition, there will be grilling, giveaways, and DJ sets from ROCKCITY, Nor DJs, and Justin Dahl.

For more information on the Leukemia Research Foundation, please check out their home page.

We're raffling off 2 tickets to our next All-Star game while we party with the Arts of Life community on June 19th. Read more to learn about celebrating their 10th anniversary of bringing people with and without disabilities together in creativity.

This Saturday, June 19th, WCR will be helping the Arts of Life celebrate their 10th anniversary.

The Arts of Life was founded in Chicago by a group of twelve individuals with a passion for artistic expression and a need for an alternative system, ten of whom had intellectual or developmental disabilities. The organization is committed to providing high quality, innovative services for developmentally disabled adults. Their studio focuses on its artists’ needs and strives to exceed expectations. Today they have two locations, a vibrant community of artists, and even The Arts of Life band!

This birthday-themed celebration is being held as part of their annual summer exhibit at the new North Shore studio, which just opened in Glenview this past January. The event will not only unveil over 60 new works from more than 30 Arts of Life artists; it comes complete with a community play put on by the music and performance programs, lawn party games, as well as an old school cookout.

As if that wasn't excitement enough, there will also be a raffle and silent auction. WCR is donating 2 tickets to our upcoming All-Star game on July 31st against the Boston Derby Dames' Boston Massacre. This bout will also mark the debut of our 2010 Second Wind squad!

Tickets are $40, $5 for ages 12-18, and children under 12 are free. They can be purchased here.

The Arts of Life North Shore Studio is located at 1963 Johns Drive‬, Glenview, IL 60025. The event will run from 6pm-9pm.

For more information, please visit their home page.

This Saturday, you can help us help Planned Parenthood and Tequila Mockingbird just by walking through the door! Read on for more about a great organization and an extraordinary person.

Our bout donation for the Ivy King Cup will be going to Planned Parenthood of Illinois.

PPIL's 17 health centers throughout the state deliver vital health care services, sex education, and sexual health information to more than 65,000 women and families each year. For more than 60 years, building healthy communities has been Planned Parenthood’s mission.

As an added bonus, all proceeds from the Black & White Scrimmage captains' auction will be donated to Tequila Mockingbird.

In August 2007, veteran skater Tequila Mockingbird fell and seriously injured her spinal cord during a bout. Since that day, Tequila works daily in therapy to regain her strength and physical abilities. She has regained some movement in all of her limbs and due to sheer perseverance and hard work, she is using the walking machine and swimming with the assistance of her physical therapists. Learn more at HelpTequila.com.

The Ronald McDonald House near UC opened its doors on September 13, 1986 as the second House in Chicago. Check 'em out, they're Chicago's grooviest go-go gals.

Plus, the first 300 fans through the door get a WCR keychain, so get your rear in gear and get there early!

On May 16th, WCR will skate 10 miles along the lakefront to support the fight against cancer. Help us meet our goal!

Our team has grown, and so has our goal!

With only a few days left before this year's Walk and Roll, we now have a whopping 26 skaters who will be representing our league, and they've reached 99% of our donation goal of $8,500.

WCR has skated in every Walk and Roll since the league began. The event benefits The American Cancer Society, which has been in communities across the country offering cancer programs and support to help those in their time of need for nearly 100 years.

There's still time to chip in a few bucks on our team page.

Plus, a special shout-out to Poppy Spock, who's one of the top 5 individual fundraisers!
