The Manic Attackers sent a message with their resounding win against the Double Crossers earlier in the evening telling the reigning champs that their title has an uncertain future. With determination and steamrolling momentum on their side, the Manic Attackers looked to close out The Fury and leave the evening victorious.

The bout started with Kola Loka facing off against Zoe Trocious, pitting two incredibly talented jammers against each other. Zoe Trocious gained lead jammer thanks to superb skating skills and precision blocking from Mo Vengeance, Tamikaze, and Ruth Enasia. The Manic Attackers started the bout on top of The Fury 9-0. It wasn’t long before The Fury answered back and the bout was bubbling into a frothing cauldron of molten hot magma.

Rusty Razorskates made an excellent showing for The Fury and helped add depth to a thinning Fury jammer pool. Still leaning on veterans Kola Loka and Jackie Daniels, The Fury also employed KonichiWOW to jam, and the Ivy King Cup champs were still showing they have a right to stay on top.

Both teams were fighting tooth and nail on the track and gaining any real estate didn’t come without a high price. Bork Bork Bork, Lola Getz, Ying O’Fire and Rose Feratu were bruising and battering their way through the pack clearing lanes and making their presence felt. The Fury were answering back with sniping from T.S. Helliot, precision recycling from Mel Content, Yvette YourMaker and Take Out Box, and punishing blows from Janicide Joplin.

As the bout was drawing to a close, it looked like a run away win for The Fury, but The Manic Attackers’ Theivin’ Tyler scored an impressive 20 points to put her team to within eight points, closing a 42-14 gap. From there, The Fury kept the lead and leaned on every skater in the lineup to bring their skills to the table. It was an impressive win for The Fury with the score set at 66-52.

The Fury pulled a win out that was nothing short of spectacular. Trading blows with the Manic Attackers, it was the team with the most stamina at the end of the game that was taking the overall win for the evening home. Though the Manic Attackers were stacked with talent and tenacity, The Fury managed to pull their rookie and veteran talent together and made a point to show they aren’t done fighting yet.

Team captain, Abbey scored two points for the Double Crossers to finally put them on the board in the fourth jam. In the same jam, they lose veteran Nina Faile to a leg injury and the turning point of the bout for the Double Crossers.

Phoebe Fi Fo Fum proved to be the game changer for the Hell’s Belles. She had great poise and resilience under the face of punishment and made short work of the Double Crossers defense. Team captains Mya Ssault and Deb Autry were both dishing out punishment throughout the bout and creating havoc in the front and the back of the pack.

The Double Crossers weren’t able to amass enough points to break the Hell’s Belles lead, but they still managed to go blow for blow and brought some pain of their own to the track. Busty BraBender, Cruel Whip, Julia Rosenwinkel, and Berg were all handing out menacing blows to the ladies in red.

The Hell’s Belles made short work of the Double Crossers, keeping the momentum through most of the bout and tallying a decent spread. The Double Crossers were chipping away at the Hell’s Belles lead, but the points weren’t enough to counter their multiple trips to the penalty box and lack of juice from their jammer pool.

There was no shortage of defense on the Double Crossers side of the scoreboard, but they didn’t have the point-scoring drive needed to put the Hell’s Belles to bed. The Belles performance, winning 89-23, shows that they are in definite contention for a shot at the Ivy King Cup.

Supporting the Alzheimer's Association, the Manic Attackers are still gaining traction from last season with a solid mixture of rookies, newer skaters and their old guard, including Ying O’Fire, back from giving birth to her baby girl during the off-season.  For this team, there is no sign of weakness and winning is the only option. The text-in crowd votes showed the popular sentiment laying in these ladies favor in winning the entire evening.

The Double Crossers skated for the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago. The team is looking for some vindication after a lack luster season last year. With a pair of their hardest hitters in Norma Lee Wright and Georgia on Yer Behind opting for just the All-Star team, the Double Crossers have their work cut out for them.

Though the Double Crossers were trying to be a physical presence on the track, it was overshadowed by the intensity of the Manic Attackers defense. Impenetrable and unrelenting, Bork Bork Bork, Mo Vengeance, Lola Getz, Rose Feratu, Ruth Enasia, and anyone wearing electric blue and yellow was making it hard for the Double Crossers to negotiate the track.

That’s not to say the Double Crossers weren’t even there, with Nina Faile in the lineup after missing the 2011 season on injury, the prospects looked good. Combined with solid jamming from Abbey, Dani Get Your Guns, Sunshine N Painbows and rookie Teddy Slams there was a sprinkle of hope for the silent ninjas. As the bout continued on, though, the Manic Attackers threw blow after blow until there were only smoldering remains of the Double Crossers.

The Manic Attackers showed their true grit on the track. With a solid line up and a big bag of hard hits, they showed the Double Crossers their toughness and gave the rest of the league a taste of what this season will look like. The Manic Attackers won the bout with a score of 103-36. They went on to face The Fury while the Double Crossers went on to face the Hell’s Belles.

The Windy City Rollers are switching things up this year with a Pre-Season Charity Bout to benefit select charities. On January 28, the 4 home teams will host a single elimination tournament with four 30-minute mini-bouts. First, The Fury will face the Hell's Belles. Directly following, the Manic Attackers will take on the Double Crossers. The losing teams will compete for 3rd place, and then the winners of the first two bouts will  fight for the opportunity to award their charity of choice prize money in the last bout of the night.

The Fury has selected the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer as their charity partner for the 2012 season. The organization is a national series of 39-mile weekend fundraising events launched in 2003 by the Avon Foundation supporting research to find a cure or prevention, as well as programs that enable all patients to access quality care.

The Hell's Belles have partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters. For over a century, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been helping change kids’ perspectives and giving them the opportunity to reach their potential. Big Brothers/Big Sisters pairs a child with a role model to start something incredible: a one-to-one relationship built on trust and friendship that can blossom into a future of unlimited potential.

The Double Crossers will be playing for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, whose mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Boys & Girls Clubs provide young people with a safe place to spend time during non-school hours and the summer as an alternative to the streets or being home alone, with a chance to play, have fun, laugh and learn.

Finally, the Manic Attackers will proudly support the Alzheimer's Association, which is the leading, global voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care and support, and the largest private, nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research. The organization's mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

The Windy City Rollers (North Central Rival of the Cincinnati Rollergirls) have released their schedule for the 2012 season, and are looking to make it back to the WFTDA Championships in Atlanta, GA next year.

The first Roller Derby World Cup, organized by Blood & Thunder magazine, will bring 13 teams of amateur skaters from around the world to compete for their respective nations. The inaugural 2011 event is being hosted by Toronto Roller Derby, and is being held December 1 through 4, at The Bunker at Downsview Park in Toronto,  Canada.

The international competition starts this Thursday at 4PM Central as the first 2 teams take to the track to begin the group play. Argentina (with WCRs own Sargentina) vies against Ireland at 5:20PM Central, followed by USA (with WCRs own Varla Vendetta) against New Zealand. Concluding the day’s game play at 8pm Central, Team USA battles itself in the USA vs USA expo bout.

World Cup action continues through Sunday with additional group play and elimination rounds, culminating with the closing celebration at 5:30 PM Central. Check out the schedule of events for more event information.

The first half of the bout saw KCRW slowly picking their way forward in points. With neither team clearly grabbing a firm hold to the top spot, it was anyone’s guess as to how the first half would end. It was a tied game after jam 10, with Zoe Trocious scoring the 3 points to even the score. But the last 10 jams of the half saw WCR only capturing 4 additional points while KCRW pushed ahead, gaining 17 points, to end the half 42 to 29 (Kansas City).

The WCR All-Stars came into the second half with a renewed spirit and brought the fight back the Kansas City. Just as KCRW picked away at the points in the first half, the WCR All-Stars began to chip away at KCRW’s lead with each passing jam. In jam 9, while KCWR was busy attempting a star pass, Athena DeCrime grabbed lead jammer status and  pushed the All-Stars into the lead by getting WCR 4 points, ending the jam with a score 60-57 (WCR).

The All-Stars kept mounting their points and widening the gap as the second half pushed on. But their momentum came to a halt. With12 minutes left in the bout, the tide turned as the All-Stars gained no ground for 7 jams. It didn't help that the All-Stars could not keep themselves out of the penalty box, which included the expulsion of Jackie Daniels with 3 minutes left to the bout. KCRW took advantage of the frequency with which the All-Stars were being sent to the box by claiming lead jammer status jam after jam, clawing their way back into the top position.

With recurring trips to the penalty box, coupled with the repeated claim of lead jammer by KCRW, the All-stars could not gain their footing and lost their chance at the Hydra Trophy. With a final score of 112-95, Kansas City moves forward to face their next opponent tonight while WCR celebrates a top-notch final bout and the end of their 2011 season.

Even though this was a loss, the bout was a wonderful display of the level of tenacity that WCR plays at. It demonstrated why the Windy City Rollers are a top derby team. Varla Vendetta, Yvette YourMaker, Athena DeCrime, Jackie Daniels, Wreck N Shrew and Zoe Trocious all displayed some great jamming when they cleared the pack. It was not just their speed, but also agilely jumping the apex, juking around a seemingly solid wall, and even a display of a “crazy octopus” move (as the announcers called it) which helped the All-Stars rack up points and maintain a close score for most of the bout.

Even with their defense spending a lot of time in the box, WCR’s blocking powerhouse made KCRW fight for their win. Bork Bork Bork, Ol' Drrrty Go-Go, Sargentina, Tori Adore, Jackie Daniels, Hoosier Mama, Amy Nonamey, Georgia on Yer Behind, Deb Autry and the rest of the All-Star defense built tough walls for KCRW to breech and hit hard at every chance. Even with a single blocker on the track at times, it was never an easy pass for KCRW. With great game play and sportsmanship (Hoosier Mama embraced opponent skater Kelly Young after a jam) the All-Stars can return to Chicago still feeling like champions as they set their sights on their 2012 season!
