The Windy City Rollers travel teams are lacing up their skates early in 2012! Traditionally starting their travel seasons after the Ivy King Cup Championship bout in June, Chicago’s number 1 roller derby team is in high training mode in preparation for their first bout against the Naptown Roller Girls on Saturday, March 31.
We sat down with Kola Loka, key player and jammer for The Fury, to find out what goes on under the helmet of the MVP for last Saturday's The Fury vs. Double Crossers bout.
After a back and forth start the defending Ivy King Cup champions, The Fury tallied their first win of the season against the Double Crossers with a score of 139-70 at the UIC Pavilion Saturday night. Leaning on their rookies and transfer talent, The Fury managed a win brought on by pinpointed hitting and mass attack scoring. The Double Crossers were holding their own early on, but couldn’t pull the trigger for a win and fell further behind as the bout came to an end.
With the first place seeding on the line, the Manic Attackers took the fight to the Hell’s Belles and claimed a first place victory winning 168-102 at the UIC Pavilion Saturday night. Both teams were frothing from the beginning, but the Manic Attackers had the gas to hold on until the end and sent the Hell’s Belles home with a loss. With both teams going into triple digits, there was no shortage of scoring, but the Manic Attackers defense is what was holding strong as the final whistle blew.
