Gun Show Poe
"You want tickets? I got two!"
By the time their thirteenth child had come into the world, Ma and Pa Poe were doing a brisk business selling all kinds of illegal firearms out of the back room of their variety store in Death Gulch, Arizona. In celebration of the source of their newfound wealth, they named the newest addition to their family, Gun Show. Little did they know just how appropriate that name would be.
As a toddler, Gunshow hated dolls and preferred to play with spent shell casings. When she grew older, she proved to be an expert markswoman, faster than any of the neighborhood boys and twice as deadly.
Just about the only man that could keep up with her was DelRoy Hutchins, the most notorious thug in Gascan County. That is, until DelRoy went and made the mistake of his life by running around on Gun Show Poe.
She found him and Dawn McSkeezy out behind the woodpile by old man Cleary’s tumble-down shack.
“What in the HELL do you think you’re doing?” she screamed.
“Aw, baby….it wadn’t nothin’, “ explained DelRoy, oozing oily charm.
“Don’t EVER call me baby!” said Gun Show, pulling a sawed-off shotgun from under her skirt. DelRoy’s head was off before he could utter another word, his worthless blood staining Dawn’s cheap beehive.
“Oh my GAWD! What have you done?” she screamed.
“Shut up you cheap slut, “ exclaimed Gun Show, calmly firing the second shell, which reduced Dawn’s head to a rain of viscera.
When the authorities came to collect her, Gun Show was sitting on her porch calmly whittling a .45 out of a piece of fallen oak.
She was remanded to the Tuskaloosa Mental Hospital and placed in the maximum security wing.
After a few years---and a few dozen shock treatments--- she had progressed to the point where she was moved to the vocational program. Gun Show Poe found her second calling when it came time to give the new inmates their monthly haircuts.
One of the new admits, Val Capone claimed she was just
“Passing through, girly, passing through.”
Afterwards, pleased with her new haircut, Capone looked at Gun Show with a devilish wink.
“We’re getting’ outta here tonight, and we can use a gal like you. Whaddya say?”
Gunshow broke into a broad grin. Her trigger finger was itching.
