The Saturday night of Aug 25, 2012 was a spine-tingling evening to watch roller derby at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. The Windy City’s B team, Second Wind, took on the Denver Roller Dolls’ Bruising Altitude. 2012 was the Manic Attackers’ year heading into the Ivy King Cup Championship. In both 2010 and 2011 the Manics had their eyes on the title, but The Fury walked off with the cup. But after a season of hard work and instituting a “whole team” mentality, the Manic Attackers went undefeated. From the first whistle both teams dueled as The Fury led an offensive battle putting their best guns out. Yet, twice the Manics came back from huge deficits in the title bout to end The Fury’s reign.

The first of two afternoon playoff bouts on Mother’s Day kicked off at 3pm as the Double Crossers faced the undefeated Manic Attackers. Windy City All-Star veterans Hoosier Mama and Varla Vendetta joined the Crossers’ squad as guests in addition to Dame Over, Indycent, and co-captain Joanie Utah, all of whom made a return to the roster.
