The Charitable Side of the Windy City Rollers: All-Star Bout Donations
Did you think we forgot about our commitment to the community just because the home season is over? Of course not! WCR is continuing to give back by donating a portion of the proceeds from each All-Star bout to a different organization.
Our All-Star season opener on July 25th vs. Philadelphia’s Philly Roller Girls benefited Vital Bridges. Vital Bridges’ mission is to help people throughout metropolitan Chicago impacted by HIV and AIDS to improve their health and build self-sufficiency by providing food, nutrition, housing, case management and prevention services. Since their founding in 1988, they have provided more than 10 million meals, 600,000 nights of shelter and 250,000 hours of counseling to over 10,000 clients.
The next home bout will be August 29th vs. Baltimore’s Charm City Roller Girls, and our charity of choice will be Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run focuses on experiential learning programs for girls ages 8-13. The programs combine training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.
We hope to see you on the 29th. Remember, you’re not only supporting local roller derby, but so much more!
