Walk & Roll update

Charity » Posted May 26th, 2009 by

On May 17, 2009, the Windy City Rollers participated in the American Cancer Society Walk & Roll for the fifth consecutive year. Skating in the Walk & Roll has been a tradition since the league's first season in 2005. This year, 15 of our skaters and referees took the 10-mile path along the lake shore, skating south from Grant Park and back. Thanks to the generous donations of our WCR friends and family, our team raised $5,360 to benefit the American Cancer Society! But WCR is not the only roller derby entity in Chicago skating for ACS. Upon their return to Grant Park, WCR joined The Chicago Outfit and Derby Lite for a celebratory cookout, creating a unified Chicago derby presence in the fight against cancer. WCR thanks those of you who donated, inspiring us to skate hard in honor of our loved ones who have been affected by cancer, and enabling ACS to continue their essential work of eliminating cancer as a major health problem through research, education, advocacy, and service.
