WCR's All-Stars Unable to Fend Off RMRG's 5280 Fight Club
The Windy City Rollers’ All-Stars were served a brutal 151-56 loss at the hands of the Rocky Mountain Roller Girls’ 5280 Fight Club at the UIC Pavilion. Ranked #10 in DNN’s power rankings and #1 in WFTDA’s North Central Division, the WCR All-Stars faced aggressive, athletic jamming and blocking from the #3 power-ranked Fight Club who are second only to Oly in the West. Fight Club jumped to an early, substantial lead with DeRanged’s fifteen-point first jam. Athena DeCrime put three points on the board for the All-Stars in the fifth jam, but Fight Club blockers effectively recycled WCR jammers to keep the All-Stars to single digits for the first eighteen minutes of play. DeRanged and She Who Cannot Be Named played both aggressive defense and offense from the jammer line, relentlessly widening the gap and leaving the floor with a 77-22 halftime score.
The second half saw Fight Club jammers DeRanged, She Who Cannot Be Named, Urrk’n Jerk’n, and Frida Beater taking lead jammer status and aggressive defensive action against WCR jammers. Fight Club blockers controlled the pack with hard hits and an intermittently successful slow game strategy. Despite facing a nearly standstill pack that drew scattered boos from the crowd, Athena DeCrime took lead jam and scored ten for the All-Stars in the eighth jam. Back-to-back trips to the penalty box for Varla Vendetta and Ruth Enasia, however, gave RMRG power jam opportunities that threatened to widen the lead to the century mark. With less than six minutes left in the bout, the All-Stars fought point by point to save themselves from that fate but suffered their second loss at home with a final 151-56 score.

They definitely outplayed us. DeRanged is one of the best jammers I've ever seen.
And injuries really hurt us, especially to Beth and Ska Face. It seemed like half the WCR roster was different from the last bout against Boston.
But at the risk of sounding like a sore loser, I have to come back to the officiating. I would have thought we would have had some kind of homer advantage, but the refs seemed much more confused by RM's "slow game" tactics than the WCR players did. They spent most of the time waving their arms signaling that they wanted the pack to come together, but they almost never called penalties for destroying the pack, even when the RM players completely stopped or skated backwards. They also hardly ever called hitting outside the engagement zone. Instead, when their blockers would hit our jammers outside the zone, we would get major penalties for cutting the track. Really? Our jammers have to get recycled after they're hit illegally?
It seems like our officials don't know how to call this type of bout because they don't really see it during the WCR home season. Our teams actually try to skate and don't engage in this "slow game" nonsense. One wonders if the fans in Denver enjoy watching a bunch of women refusing to skate. They probably also enjoy pursuit bicycle races where the riders both try to go as slowly as possible, and soccer games where the best strategy is the offside trap. These kinds of tactics may work, but they're about as exciting as watching paint dry. It's not the kind of thing that makes me want to come back; not because we lost, but because it's negative and boring and frustrating. Call the fouls for this junk so we can see some skating, refs!
You can't win them all but , you girls kept going and never quit.
leaving it all out their is all one can ask for. Love you all .
