It all comes down to this: the Ivy King Cup Championship.

The Windy City Rollers, Chicago’s premier women’s flat-track roller derby league, will hold its fifth season championship game for the Ivy King Cup on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 6 p.m. at UIC Pavilion, located at 525 S. Racine Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The game will be an epic ending to an arduous and electrifying season.
For the first time in WCR history, the Manic Attackers, the league’s ferocious underdogs, have earned a spot in the championship. They will take on the 2008 Ivy King Cup champs, the Hell’s Belles, who were undefeated in 2008 and vehemently want to defend their title.

Skaters from the Double Crossers and The Fury will be randomly sorted into black and white teams that will play each other in the opening bout of the evening. The WCR held an eBay auction for fans to bid to guest captain the white or black team for this second bout. Proceeds from that auction will be donated to Tahirah “Tequila Mockingbird” Johnson, a former Windy City Roller skater who suffered a spinal cord injury in August 2007, for her medical care. The Polkaholics, a Chicago band that plays a high-speed collision of polka and rock, are the pre-show entertainment. The National Anthem will be performed by a group of Windy City Rollers skaters. Proceeds from the bout will benefit Porchlight Counseling Services, which helps college sexual assault survivors.
